Finsbury Park United Synagogue is delighted to announce the appointment of Reverend Menasche Scharf as their new rabbi, following a majority vote in his favour. Reverend Scharf is due to begin his new role at the beginning of May this year.
Reverend Menasche Scharf was born in Antwerpen, Belgium and was educated in the local Jesode haTorah Junior School, followed by the educational institutions of Belz Chassidim in Belgium and in Jerusalem. Since moving to London in 1987, he lives with his wife Kriendy Scharf BA (Hons) and family in Stamford Hill and works for KLBD.
His involvement in communal activism took him through a number of projects, including Start Your Day the Torah Way, Beis Yaakov School for Girls, Travelling Chassidim, Bayis Ne’eman, and Yeshivas Ahavas Torah. He served as Chazan and Ba’al Kore in synagogues across the Greater London area, and in his spare time he loves reading and writing.
Reverend Scharf said: “I have been visiting Finsbury Park United Synagogue (FPUS) for some years now and my admiration for this close-knit community grew with every event that they laid on. Each one of the social activities is an enriching experience and has a palpable feeling of unity and joy. The recent Chanukah experience, playing dreidel with the lovely members of the shul, where young and old were fully involved, made everyone feel welcome.
It is my hope that this new role will be an opportunity to rejuvenate and invigorate the shul members and myself to reach greater heights. I look forward to embarking on this journey, to grow and enhance the religious and social services at FPUS.”
Maytal Charing, Chair at Finsbury Park United Synagogue, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Reverend Menasche Scharf! His appointment is a blessing to our wonderful community, bringing wisdom, warmth, and a bright future for us all. Finsbury Park United community are very excited.”
