Education

At the heart of Judaism is a culture of lifelong education, learning and applied wisdom for how we act. And so practical, experiential and textual Jewish learning are at the heart of the United Synagogue’s mission in its communities and more broadly in the Jewish community and beyond.

Working alongside our rabbinic teams and other colleagues, the US delivers this mission through the provision of high-quality, engaging programmes, publications and online resources.

Shira Jackson

Shira works as an educator in our Education Department; she enjoys connecting Biblical personalities and stories to contemporary Judaism and her interactive style brings her Torah teaching to life. She has a degree in Physics with Medical Physics and is a graduate of the Chief Rabbi’s Ma’ayan Programme. Shira has a Tanakh Teaching Certificate from Herzog College.

Rabbi Michael Laitner

Rabbi Michael Laitner works as Director of Education for the US and Head of Research at Rabbi Sacks Legacy where he is engaged in analysing archive material and preparing it for publication. He particularly enjoys teaching Jewish history, values and law through a contemporary lens. His lively style helps participants to improve their own study and knowledge skills.  He has served in rabbinic roles at South Hampstead, Finchley (Kinloss) and Golders Green Synagogues and is a non-practising solicitor.
