Northwood & Ruislip United Synagogue paid tribute to all those who perished during the Holocaust as they marked Holocaust Memorial Day.
This year’s HMD marked the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, concentration camp. The theme this year was For a Better Future.
A packed audience heard Bernice Krantz introduce the event and welcome our Guest Speaker, Jacques Cowan, who related his story of his family at war story. A battle of survival.
Robin Kantor recited the Memorial Prayer followed by a short reading.
The lighting candle ceremony was led by Jacques Cowan, Bernice Krantz and Robin Kantor followed by Representatives of the Holocaust Learning UK, The Ark Synagogue, Northwood, Carry Sherman and members of Jacques family. This illustrates the survival into following generations.
The event finished with a minute’s silence and the Hatikvah.
