Make your mitzvah of Arba Minim go further this year

What to do with your Arba Minim after Sukkot

  • As a society we are encouraged to re-use and re-purpose everyday objects. This can be applied in Judaism too?
  • Did you know you can dispose of, or repurpose your Arba Minim in an environmentally friendly way?
  • Below are some suggestions from Dorot

Lulav & Aravot

  • Compost them
  • They will naturally break down and return nutrients to the earth!

Etrog

  • Compost it
  • Or create a fragrant pomander with cloves to use as besamim for Havdallah

Hadas

  • Reuse an empty jar and create your own besamim for Havdallah
  • A beautiful way to let your mitzvah continue into the week

Plastic Wallets

  • Save and reuse for next year
  • Or recycle them responsibly

 Why It Matters

By composting or reusing your Arba Minim, you:

  • Reduce waste
  • Care for the environment
  • Repurpose something first used for one mitzvah and use it for another

Some of our communities are collecting Arba Minim, check your Shul’s newsletter to see if you can donate yours.
