We are extremely proud of our member, Gerry Bloohn, who was recently presented with the award for Outstanding Service to Disability Tennis in Hertfordshire by the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire. This is what they said about amazing Gerry, who’s 91 this year.
“Gerry has played a central role in the development of disability tennis not only at Potter Bar tennis club but right across the county. He was part of the team that started the LTA disability plan in Herts 15 years ago and from working closely with Gerry in that time he has shown constant drive and enthusiasm to open up opportunities for the disabled community.
Within this time Hertfordshire has become a leading county in the country with disability participation and over the last 2 years been number one for participation numbers.
Projects that Gerry has been involved in over the years on top of his weekly programme at Potters Bar includes a multiple SEND schools delivery plan and he was not only involved in organising and building links with the schools but also delivering the sessions to the children. He has also been involved in delivering Visually impaired tennis and hearing impaired tennis sessions and built strong links with groups such as Mencap.
There is no doubt that all the efforts Gerry has put in has led to Hertfordshire progression within disability tennis.”
