New Rabbinic couple to lead BES@Yavneh

Borehamwood & Elstree United Synagogue (BES) is delighted to announce the selection of Rabbi Greg and Rebbetzin Hannah Bank as the new Rabbinic couple leading the BES@Yavneh site of the community, following a 94% approval from the community vote. The engaging and dynamic husband-and-wife team, along with their sons Geffen, Dekel, and Erez, will be joining BES towards the end of the year.

Rabbi Greg and Rebbetzin Hannah are currently serving at Yeshurun Hebrew Congregation in Manchester, where they have been since November 2019. They were unanimously recommended by the BES Rabbinic Selection Committee after an extensive recruitment process.

Rabbi Greg brings a wealth of experience in community leadership, education, and pastoral care. He studied at Yeshivat Har Etzion in Israel for ten years, completing the Hesder Programme and the Kollel Halacha, and served in the IDF as a combat medic. Rebbetzin Hannah is an accomplished educator in her own right, having earned her B.Ed. at Michlala Orot Israel College after studying at Midreshet HaRova in Jerusalem.

The appointment underscores BES’ model of operating over two locations – BES@Croxdale and BES@Yavneh – within one BES community. This setup preserves an intimate, close-knit atmosphere while offering tailored services and programming to meet the community’s diverse needs.

Rabbi Bank said: “We are incredibly honoured to join the BES community and have been overwhelmed by its warmth and welcoming spirit. BES@Yavneh is renowned for its spirit, energy and embracing nature. We are thrilled to be part of this next exciting stage of the community’s growth.”

Rabbi Alex Chapper, Senior Rabbi of BES, said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Rabbi Greg and Rebbetzin Hannah Bank to the BES Rabbinic Team. Their passion for Jewish life, commitment to building community, and ability to connect with people of all ages will undoubtedly enrich our kehilla. I look forward to working closely with them and the rest of the Rabbinic Team to continue growing BES as a vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring community.”

BES Chair Josh Moont said: “We are confident the Banks will be instrumental in building a stronger BES together, as we maintain our ethos of being welcoming, friendly, and inclusive. This appointment marks the start of a new era of growth and inspiration, as BES goes from strength to strength.” He added: “We extend our deepest gratitude to Rabbi Avinoam and Rebbetzin Haddas Czitron for their exceptional leadership and unwavering support as our interim Rabbinic couple. Their significant contributions to BES@Yavneh have been invaluable. We wish them great success in their future roles and endeavours.”
