Around thirty volunteers from our community were involved in setting up and running projects and many more donated goods and money. Firstly buying food and assembling bags of ingredients for recipes for the GIFT food bank in Hendon. 180 families will be the recipients of the food bags so they can cook the dishes for their families.
The spirit of Mitzvah Day includes building bridges with other communities and so the second project was collecting donations of food and toiletries for the Manna Food Bank, Elim Church, Watford. We have a long term relationship with Manna and we were very touched by the certificate they brought to us in appreciation of our donations and support. Over 3,500 individuals and families have been helped through the partnership.
The third project was running a children’s party for the Jewish Family Centre, in NW11. The Centre, which is entirely run by volunteers, supports orthodox women and families who are in difficulty and vulnerable. The magician, face painting candy floss, drinks and snacks were a big hit with the fifty five children who came and their parents really appreciated it.
The Mitzvah Day projects provide an opportunity for our community to work together for the good of others.
