Pinner Synagogue member Stephen Collins regaled a packed, beautifully decorated Shul succah with tales from his many years spent working at the Bank of England both in the UK and America, as part of the Pinner Shul annual succah event.
The Pinner catering team, headed up by Vice-Chair Anthony Sultan, swung into action with a sumptuous barbecue, rounded off by fresh fruit. Synagogue member Margery Cohen commented, “It’s so lovely to be in the Shul succah on a warm evening, with delicious food, good company and such an interesting speaker.”
Stephen Collins, whose after-dinner talk was entitled “One Man, Six Guv’nors”, shared many fascinating anecdotes about his interactions with well-known names from the field of international banking, high finance and government, and his audience was particularly interested to hear about the part he played during the period under former Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, when the Bank of England became fully independent from the Government.
Mel Lawson, who was part of the organising team, said how lovely it was “to be with my Pinner friends in the succah”, and fellow member Ruth Freedman agreed, summing up the evening as “another excellent Pinner event.”
