US Burial Society presentation

Last Tuesday, the employees and ground staff at the US Burial Society, many of whom are not Jewish, held a presentation morning at Radlett United Synagogue to learn more about Judaism.

Their work often exposes them to many of the traditions and rituals beyond the confines of bereavement and they wanted to learn more. Radlett Chair, Stephen Grossman spoke to them about kashrut and his work in the meat industry, Radlett member Jacques Weisser spoke about the Holocaust and his personal story of survival, and Rabbi Nick Kett gave an overview of some of the fundamentals, including the Jewish calendar, synagogue and community life, and chesed.

Rabbi Kett said: “We loved working with the Burial Team, and it was a pleasure to share more about our work with them, especially since they do so much for our community on a daily basis.”

The presentation ended with Rabbi Nick thanking them for the important work they do to facilitate bringing our loved ones to a speedy, yet dignified burial, and paid tribute to the late Melvyn Hartog z”l who led the Burial Society for over 20 years.
