Barnet Synagogue – Promoting Health & Wellbeing

Barnet Synagogue is a forward-looking and dynamic community. For several years, we have proudly been part of the Eco Synagogue movement, with our environmental efforts passionately led by Donna Cohen.

In a similar spirit, members of our community have launched an exciting new Health & Wellbeing Programme, running from November through to Pesach. This initiative will include a diverse range of expert-led talks covering topics such as diet and nutrition, heart health, mental wellbeing, teen mental health, and how colour can influence our moods.

Each week, we will be sharing healthy recipes in the Shul Shabbaton, while encouraging members to come together to share their favourite active pastimes and support one another in leading healthier lives.

Rabbi Lister explains, “Judaism recognises the importance of not just physical health but emotional health too. Being in a healthy body allows us to serve Hashem in the most complete way possible. Health is not simply about living more enjoyably, but living more purposefully. Caring for our health is the first step in fulfilling our Jewish mission – a mission that begins with taking care of ourselves.”

We are delighted to open the programme with a special evening featuring Mark Creeger, who will generously share his personal health journey. Rabbi Lister will also speak, offering a Jewish perspective on maintaining physical and emotional wellbeing on Wednesday, 5th November 2025.
