As part of the recent United Synagogue Women’s Shabbat, Barnet shul member and Holocaust Educator, Mala Tribich MBE was awarded as Honorary Vice President of Barnet Synagogue.
During the service, Mala was interviewed by Vice Chair, Natalie Shaw MBE, where she discussed the importance of Holocaust education and her ongoing involvement in it.
She also shared her experiences as the sole UK Shoah survivor representative for the 80th commemorations of the liberation of Auschwitz where she visited the camp along with His Majesty, King Charles and the Chief Rabbi KBE.
After the discussion, Mala was presented with a certificate from Barnet shul by our Chair, Tony Cohen, alongside a personal letter of thanks from the Chief Rabbi, in which he described her as ‘no greater role model’. It went on to thank her for her ‘unwavering courage, inimitable grace and relentless spirit’ in her dedication to ensuring that the voices of those who had been silenced by the Holocaust would ‘forever be heard’.
In response to receiving this honour, Mala commented on the importance of the Barnet community and how she enjoys being part of it in many different ways.
Avis Shahar, Ladies’ Honorary Officer added: “This honour was well deserved, and it was a great way to recognise Mala as a true Eishet Chayil, the theme of Women’s Shabbat. Her thoughts about the Barnet community perfectly sums us up as one caring family.”
