The multi-award winning Smoking Apples puppetry and visual theatre company brought their show, Kinder, to the Sheffield Jewish Community earlier this week.
The show tells the story of one small Jewish girl, escaping on a Kindertransport train and embarking on a mighty adventure.
Crossing between the past and present, Babi travels across Europe; from bon bons in Germany to the smell of the sea in Margate, she discovers how tiny acts of kindness can change the course of a person’s life.
The joyful, moving and poignant, Kinder features beautiful table top puppetry and cinematic shadow play, as Babi tries to assemble the parts of her broken identity, to find peace in her future.
David Burchhardt, a member of the US Sheffield, is one of the three performers for this Smoking Apples production which had five performances in Sheffield.
Many of the audiences were in tears by the end of this moving show. The show is currently on tour and will conclude at JW3 from 30 October to 1 November 2024 and is certainly worth getting tickets.
The audience are seated in a freestanding box structure with the action happening all around them. This immersive set has a maximum seating capacity of 40 so early booking is advised.
Last year the show was a multi-OFFIE Award Winner (off West End Show awards) for Best Production and Best Original Music/Sound (both Theatre for Young Audiences category) and also won an Ettie Award for best Theatre for Young Audiences Production.
