Wembley Synagogue celebrates 2nd anniversary of new home

Wembley United Synagogue celebrated its second anniversary in its new home, and a rather appropriate Sedra as well.

Terumah, of course, translates as ‘donation’, referring to the shekalim that were being collected to repair the Mishkan. The original Wembley Shul was built with personal donations and thereby secured the past, present and future of the shul.

Now, in our new building, still needing some ‘repair’ (not unlike the Mishkan), but a place in which our community is proud to gather together to pray and socialise.

That, we certainly did! Following the Service, members, as well as old and new friends, enjoyed an Anniversary sit-down Kiddush – a highlight being the vegetarian cholent made possible because of the equipment donated by two generous members – and shared our memories of the two years in the building.

The overriding feeling, expressed time and time again, was that whilst we had downsized in space and numbers, the size of the heart of the community was bigger and stronger than ever and remained the spiritual home for many who had left to join other communities.

Proudly, we can truly say there is always a welcome, warmth and friendship to be found in Wembley Shul.
