Radlett has become the third Shul (after Stanmore and Hendon) to join project SUNRISE.
The synagogue will be installing 70 solar panels on the roof of the community hall with the help of a generous grant from Hertsmere Brough Council. Installation will commence shortly after Simchat Torah and is planned to recoup the Shul’s investment in just 3.9 years. And even before this week’s announcement of an increase to the electricity price cap, the Shul is expecting to save more than £335,000 over the 25 year life of the system.
In support of the Chief Rabbi’s Dorot initiative, Radlett’s installation will be saving 7.6 tonnes of carbon each year equivalent to the amount of carbon injected into the atmosphere by approximately 23 London – Tel Aviv flights.
As well a generous grant from Hertsmere, Radlett is also benefiting from the Government’s exemption from VAT which lasts until 1st April next year.
