Romford’s Got Simcha

Simchat Torah was celebrated at Romford synagogue in a truly festive spirit, with the shul heaving and packed to capacity as the community came together for a joyful and memorable Chag. Chazan David Rome led beautiful and uplifting services, featuring a wonderful array of melodies, ranging from traditional favourites to tunes inspired by popular shows and music culture. It soon became something of a communal game of “Name That Tune”, adding an extra element of joy and laughter to the celebrations.

The evening was made particularly memorable by the presence of 102-year-old Monty Goldstein, well known to many members of the community and the great-uncle of former US President, Michael Goldstein. Mr Goldstein joined Chazan Rome for a number of delightful duets, bringing a very special warmth to the occasion. The service included a beautiful rendition of Eitz Chaim, a deeply moving moment that left few eyes dry.

After the service, Chairman Mr Harvey Lexton presented the certificates to the Chatanim and Eshet Chayil.

And, in true shul tradition, the celebrations continued long after the service with what can only be described as a magnificent feast, lovingly prepared by the Ladies of the community. This sumptuous meal provided the perfect way to honour Chatanim, Mr David Rumack and Mr Mark Demby, and Woman of Worth, Mrs Nita Freedman, whilst bringing the community together in such a joyful and memorable fashion.
