On Tuesday, the Centre of Rabbinic Excellence, together with the US Burial Society and the Rabbinical Council, organised a training morning at Bushey Old Cemetery in response to complications arising from the introduction of the new role of the Medical Examiner, which has led to delays in burials.
The session opened with a shiur from Dayan Binstock who addressed a number of issues relating to kavod hamet. Participants then engaged with Shlomo Sinitsky, who volunteers as the interface between the Jewish community and coroners, about the impact of the Medical Examiner system and how to best manage it, and finally with the Burial Society around shared lessons.
The training enabled rabbis to share best practice, explore ways to help expedite levayot, reduce distress, and better support families who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
