Project Sunrise
In 2022, Chief Rabbi Mirvis launched Dorot – a bold, strategic plan to reduce our environmental impact. Since then, we have planted around 1,500 trees, cut down on single-use disposables, rewilded cemetery green spaces, encouraged low-carbon travel and upgraded our buildings with low-energy lighting.
Now, we’re taking the next big step.
Many of our synagogue buildings have large, underused roof spaces. Working with Ground Control, a leading environmental systems supplier, we plan to install solar panels that will:
- Significantly reduce energy bills
- Shrink our carbon footprint
- Create long-term financial savings
The typical installation pays for itself within 3 to 5 years — after which shuls will benefit from almost free electricity.
This means more funds for vital community work: youth programmes, Chesed initiatives, education, and passing savings onto our members.
Help power the change.
The United Synagogue will lend up to 50% of installation costs – the rest will be funded locally.
This is where you can make a tangible difference.
Every donation helps your shul start saving sooner – freeing up funds for the things that matter most.
At today’s prices, a single solar panel will save your shul at least £2,896 over the life of the installation. Five solar panels could save your shul at least £14,480.
A gift from you today can create lasting savings for years to come.
