Kenton members were delighted to welcome Christina Harrison on Sunday evening for her talk on her work as Manager of Camera UK and oversee Camera on Campus UK. She holds a B.A. from the University of Glasgow and an M.A. from Tel Aviv University where she deepened her involvement in Israel advocacy. She worked at the Israel Embassy in London as assistant for Inter-Communal Affairs.
In March 2020 she returned to Scotland and reopened the centre for Scotland and Israel relations on behalf of the Israel UK Embassy. The theme of the evening could not have been more relevant particularly in the past few weeks. It was ironic to observe that this was a topic first discussed when the group Kenton for Israel was first formed in 2012. Christina’s background is quite remarkable since she was brought up as an evangelical. Her commitment to the State of Israel is amazing. She described how her organisation undertakes media research in Hebrew, Spanish and Arabic also being connected to the USA.
Apart from sifting through articles, media interviews and reporting on line, the organisation is involved in the USA with what is being taught in the Primary School curriculum. For the work being carried on in Campuses there are links with fifteen university campuses through fellowship and Israel Societies. Christina spoke of the Code of Ethics holding journalists to account. The organisation engages to challenge false and misleading claims. For example, in 2023 there were three hundred and three corrections which rose in 2024 to six hundred and fifty. To date in 2025 there have been three hundred and eighty one media corrections.
Christina showed examples of corrections needing to be made in the National Press and the distortion of facts. She further spoke of issues with the BBC and also with BBC Arabic together with the failure of Tim Davie to address these crucial issues. The audience felt privileged to have heard her talk but particularly buoyed by Christina’s capacity for covering the enormous problem and the growing workload created. She encouraged the audience to bring to her organisation’s attention anything which had inaccuraties in the coverage of Anti Semitism, Israel and the Gaza War. What was also particularly noteworthy is that she and her husband had driven from Cambridge especially for the meeting and were returning there afterwards.
To round off the evening there were delicious refreshments and an opportunity to reflect on the evening’s presentation.
