Over one hundred members and former members of Kenton United Synagogue together with their friends and guests attended the Chanukah event organised on the sixth evening, December 12th.
Before the proceedings commenced, Rabbi Black lit the Menorah, led the Service for Chanukah, followed by a short D’var Torah with emphasis on the plight of the hostages in Eretz Israel and thoughts of Israel at this time.
The attendees were then treated to a fabulous and delicious three course meal cooked by Rebbetzin Black. Entertainment was provided by the Shekoyokh Klezmer Trio with guest singer Robert Brody. The music was joyous so that it encouraged people to foot tap along but other pieces performed were melancholic. The pieces chosen created a special atmosphere. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Community to enjoy each other’s company and to celebrate Chanukah at such a difficult time. Such was the success of the evening that members were very reluctant to leave at the end. Sincere thanks for the organisation of the event must be made to the ReJewvenate Committee led by Roy Block who did so much preparation including the colourful decoration of the Shul Hall and other members who volunteered to help clear up after the event.
