Challah – our favourite bread – surrounded by tradition and symbolism…
We excitedly stood by our large bowls at the long table of ingredients, all set up and pre-measured by Rabbi Adam.
As he talked us through the recipe, we mixed and kneaded and chatted and questioned happily. We then covered and left our dough to prove and sat down with Rabbi Adam who spoke about the meaning, laws and customs of our challah – SO interesting! We then returned to our bowls to knock back and shape our dough into plaits, rounds and rolls. Sprinkles included poppy and sesame seeds and chocolate chips! Rabbi Adam had also prepared a special mix of apples and honey to spread inside the dough if we wanted.
We then took our challahs home to bake (or freeze). The smell of baking bread and the taste of homemade challah – just divine! Thank you so much Rabbi Adam for our fabulous lesson that we all thoroughly enjoyed.
