The Barnet Shul community mark Yom Ha’zikaron and celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut,
The Barnet Shul community led by Rabbi Lister came together in a meaningful and uplifting way to mark Yom Ha’zikaron and celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, creating a powerful mix of reflection and joy. The evening began with a moving Yom Ha’zikaron ceremony, where the community gathered in unity to remember and honour the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for Israel.
Guest speaker Avi Abelon from Pulse of Israel delivered thoughtful and inspiring words. This was followed by a special rendition of Hallel, led by Marc Creeger and performed by Barnet’s own band Shul of Rock. This brought an unique and emotional dimension to the service and concluded with a reflective Maariv prayer.
The tone then shifted from remembrance to celebration; the community embraced the spirit of Yom Ha’atzmaut with so much enthusiasm. They enjoyed a vibrant feast of Israeli food and drink. The celebrations continued with a lively disco led by community member, DJ Coby G, filling the shul with music, dancing, and so much joy. It was a truly special occasion, with members of all ages coming together in large numbers. Barry Flack, the shul’s warden, remarked that it was “definitely the most well attended and successful Yom Ha’zikaron and Ha’atzmaut events in the history of the shul. A fitting tribute for a shul that was also established in 1948.”
