Jeff Borsack, a member of Barnet Synagogue, was deeply honoured to meet Her Majesty The Queen, representing all UK civilians who lost their lives during the war through enemy action. Jeff is the National Chairman of the Ex-National Service Association and Chairman of Civilians Killed by Enemy Action Memorial (CKEAM) UK. He shared his personal experience of the war and represented all those who lost loved ones on the home front during the conflict.
This poignant occasion carried special personal significance for Jeff, as it marked the 85th anniversary of the deaths of his beloved parents, who were tragically killed in the Blitz, in Birmingham when he was just three years old.
Jeff’s story was featured on the BBC’s national broadcast marking the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, held in the presence of Their Majesties The King and Queen, members of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister, and an audience of over 12,000 people, watched by millions across the country. He also received a personal letter from The Queen and was profiled in the national press.
During the the ceremony Jeff addressed the audience where he gave tribute to his parents; “They were so full of life, and they died so young; and I have pledged myself to devote my life to their memory and the memory of all the UK citizens that died as a result of the war. Thank you all.”
Jeff’s quiet dignity and dedication ensure that the memory of those lost is never forgotten.
